Khawaja Asif: KP CM Gandapur Playing a Double Game Amid PTI’s Internal Struggles
Defence Minister’s Allegations
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of playing a “double game,” stating that his party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had reached a similar conclusion.
Disappointment Among PTI Supporters
In an interview with Geo News, Asif claimed that many Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters who gathered at D-Chowk during the protest were disheartened after learning that Gandapur had disappeared from the scene. “The central leadership, the Punjab leadership, the secretary, and the chairman were all absent. Only a few workers were present at the protest,” he said, suggesting that most participants were KP policemen dressed in civilian clothes.
Contradicting Gandapur’s Claims
Asif also alleged that, contrary to Gandapur’s earlier statements, the KP CM had spent the previous night at Omar Ayub’s residence in Haripur, which could be accessed via a road through the Margalla Hills, leading to Daman-i-Koh.
Frustration Within PTI Ranks
“Their workers, who had been criticising us on social media until yesterday, are now expressing their frustration with PTI leadership,” Asif added, suggesting that this disappointment would make it difficult for PTI to rally their supporters in the future.
Gandapur’s Role in PTI
Regarding Gandapur’s role in PTI, Asif claimed that Imran Khan would not penalise the KP CM because he acted as an intermediary between PTI and the establishment.
