Eid Al Adha 2025: Saudi Court Calls for Crescent Moon Sighting on May 27

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has urged Muslims nationwide to look for the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday, 29 Dhu al-Qi’dah 1446 AH, corresponding to May 27, 2025.
Crescent Moon Sighting Instructions
The court has requested that anyone who sees the crescent moon—whether with the naked eye or using binoculars—report immediately to the nearest court with their testimony. This is essential for confirming the start of Dhul Hijjah, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Additionally, the court encouraged those who can assist with moon sighting to join regional committees formed to ensure accurate observations, which serve the broader Muslim community.
UAE Astronomical Centre Confirms Crescent Moon Date
The International Astronomical Centre (IAC) in the UAE also confirmed that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH will be visible on May 27, 2025, across the Islamic world.
Mohammad Shawkat Odeh, Director of the Abu Dhabi-based centre, explained that the moon will be observable through telescopes in parts of Central and Western Asia, Africa, and Europe. Furthermore, it could be visible to the naked eye in large parts of the Americas, according to a report by WAM.
Expected Dates for Eid Al Adha 2025
Based on these astronomical observations, Wednesday, May 28 is likely to be the first day of Dhul Hijjah. Consequently, Friday, June 6, 2025, is expected to mark the start of Eid Al Adha in most Islamic countries.
The Day of Arafah will be observed on Thursday, June 5. According to the UAE government’s official website, residents in the UAE can expect a four-day holiday, including June 5 and 6 for Arafah and Eid Al Adha, followed by the regular weekend on June 7 and 8 (Saturday and Sunday).
