Six-Day Eid-ul-Azha Holiday Announced: Moon Sighting to Decide Festival Date

Six-Day Eid-ul-Azha Holiday Confirmed

Eid-ul-Azha is one of the most important Islamic festivals. Celebrated worldwide, it marks the spirit of sacrifice and devotion.

Moon Sighting to Decide Eid Date

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Muslims across the globe will look up at the sky. They’ll be searching for the crescent Moon, which signals the start of Dhul Hijjah and sets the date for Eid-ul-Azha.

A Festival Linked with Hajj

Eid-ul-Azha is deeply connected to Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah. During this time, millions of Muslims perform holy rituals and remember Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice.

Saudi Arabia Urges Moon Observation

The Saudi Supreme Court has called on Muslims to observe the sky on the evening of May 27 (29 Dhu al-Qadah 1446 AH). Spotting the crescent Moon will confirm the beginning of Dhul Hijjah.

Stock Market Trading Paused

Even though official public holidays in Saudi Arabia are not announced yet, the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) has shared its Eid schedule. Trading will stop after business hours on June 4 (8 Dhul Hijjah) and reopen on June 11 (15 Dhul Hijjah), giving a total six-day break.

Expected Dates for Eid-ul-Azha 2025

  • If the crescent Moon is sighted on May 27, Dhul Hijjah 1 will start on May 28, and Eid will be on Friday, June 6.

  • If not, Dhul Hijjah will begin on May 29, moving Eid to Saturday, June 7.

Muslims Prepare Around the World

Globally, Muslims are waiting for the final moon sighting. This religious moment helps plan travel, prayer gatherings, and family celebrations during Eid.
