5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Punjab, Epicenter Near DG Khan
Tremors Felt Across Punjab A 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook all districts of Punjab, including Lahore, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed the tremors early in the morning.
Earthquake Details Mazhar Hussain, PDMA’s spokesperson, stated that the earthquake struck at 7:28 am, with its epicenter located near DG Khan (Shadi Wala) at a depth of 10km. The tremors were widely felt, causing concern among residents across the province.
Authorities on High Alert The PDMA has issued a high alert, and district emergency operation centers across Punjab are prepared to deal with aftershocks. PDMA’s Provincial Control Room is also operational 24/7. Citizens can report structural damage to buildings via the PDMA helpline at 1129.
Previous Earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Just a day before, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, primarily affecting Swat. That earthquake had a depth of 151 kilometers, with its epicenter located in the seismically active Hindu Kush Mountain range.
