Hezbollah Fires 250 Rockets Into Israel Following Deadly Israeli Airstrikes on Beirut
Intense Rocket Fire Hits Israel
Israel’s military reported that approximately 250 rockets were fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon, marking one of the most intense bombardments since the conflict escalated in September. The attacks injured several individuals and caused significant damage to buildings in northern and central Israel, including areas near Tel Aviv.
Deadly Airstrike in Beirut
The escalation follows an Israeli airstrike on central Beirut on Saturday, which the Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed killed 29 people. The attack raised Lebanon’s death toll from Israeli strikes to 84 fatalities in a single day.
Ceasefire Discussions Underway
Amid the violence, Israeli media reported ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, facilitated by the United States. However, gaps remain in reaching a consensus.
Damage and Retaliation in Israel
Reports of rocket debris in the Tel Aviv area and direct hits in neighborhoods like Petah Tikva, Haifa, Nahariya, and Kfar Blum have intensified tensions. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that rockets left homes in flames and rubble in some locations.
Hezbollah’s Retaliatory Strikes
In response to the Beirut airstrike, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for precision missile attacks on two Israeli military sites in Tel Aviv and nearby areas. Israel responded by striking 12 Hezbollah command centers in Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.
Rising Casualties in Lebanon
According to Lebanese authorities, over 3,670 people have been killed and more than 15,400 injured in Lebanon since the conflict intensified in October 2023. The violence has displaced over one million individuals, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
Israel’s Objectives
Israel has stated that its military operations aim to secure the return of 60,000 displaced residents from its northern communities, affected by repeated Hezbollah attacks.
Moving Toward a Ceasefire
Israel’s public broadcaster Kan reported on Sunday that the country has given a “green light” to progress a US-proposed ceasefire deal. However, officials indicated that challenges remain in finalizing the agreement.
As tensions remain high, the international community continues to monitor the situation, urging both sides to de-escalate and prioritize civilian safety.
